ENGINE REQUIREMENTS
CABOOSELESS SERVICE

When you have a engine from a foreign railroad the engine only has to comply with the foreign railroads rules under board award 419.
ATSF engines only have to comply with the Santa Fe’s rule. However General Chairman
JD Fitzgerald has said Santa Fe engines operated on the former BNRR repainted BNSF
MUST COMPLY WITH BOARD AWARD 419 ON THE BNRR

(BN) BURLINGTON NORTHERN
1. AAR seats presently used on locomotives will be used for additional seats.
2. Locomotive will be fitted with not more than five seats in the control cab (not more than five persons will be required to ride in a cab).
3. Employees represented by the UTU operating without a caboose will not be disciplined or censured in any manner for refusal to leave the initial terminal of their run if the engine they are required to ride in does not meet the following standards:

A. Sanitary toilet.
B. Controlled heat.
C. Paper towels, toilet paper, cooled sanitary water in sealed containers, and a dispenser of hand cleaner, will be supplied in quantity sufficient to make the trip.
D. Windows and doors in condition to provide adequate protection against weather conditions.
E. A seat for conductor will be provided with a mounted writing surface with adequate lighting. Also, all stationery and supplies necessary will be provided.
F. Refrigerator for water cooling and lunches will have to be investigated —— no agreement as to size was made. 4. All necessary supplies and cleaning to be done by others than the train crew.
5. Adequate storage space for employees’ gear.
In Yard Service — Where the caboose has been removed pursuant to this agreement, the above conditions will apply.

(ATSF) ATCHISON, TOPEKA AND SANTA FE
Toilet--clean and operable.
Drinking Water--Cooled, Fresh, sanitary drinking cups.
Refrigerator--Not required in Award; must have cooled water so needs something.
Heating & Ventilation--to meet FRA requirements.
Seats--safe, stationary comfortable.
Wash Basin--not required; but need waterless soap and papertowels.
Compact folder or clipboard--no desk or special lamp needed.
Adequate storage--(not closed compartments or lockers) on single unit engines.
THE AWARD IS SILENTASTO RIGHT TO REFUSE AN IMPROPERLY EQUIPPED ENGINE.

(SP) SOUTHERN PACIFIC
Toilet--one clean operable toilet per engine consist.
Drinking Water--fresh and sanitary does not have to be individual containers.
Food Container--refrigerator or ice chest to cool waters and lunches.
Heating & Ventilation--to meet FRA requirements.
Seats--a seat for each crewmember; retractable armrests en the bench seats.
Wash Basin—not required: but hand cleaner and paper towels are required.
Clipboard--for conductor’s use; no desk or special lamp required.
Storage space—on single unit locomotives adequate space will be provided

(C&NW) CHICAGO AND NORTHWESTERN
Toilet--Plush type or state-of-the-art retention type; owe per engine consist.

Refrigerator or Ice Chest—to cool water and lunches; one per engine consist
Heating & Ventilation--to meet FRA requirements also a ceiling vent.
Seats--Safe stationary comfortable with arm rests (single unit engines)
Wash Basin--not required; need moist towelettes, papertowels and hand cleaner.
Clipboard and Adequate lighting--ho desk or special lamp required.
Storage space--on single unit locomotives adequate space and coat hooks.
TRAINMEN MAY REFUSE AND IMPROPURLY EQUIPPED ENGINE.

(MKT) MISSOURI KANSAS AND TEXAS

Drinking water--fresh sanitary in individual containers; on one unit per consist.
